A ‘love’ly day of Valentine’s activities for families
25 February 2020
Love was certainly in the air at Christopher’s last week – a love of all things crafting and baking, as families enjoyed a special day of Valentine’s inspired activities at Shooting Star’s Guildford hospice.
Throughout the day, Christopher’s was full of painting, creating and baking as families got stuck in with all the activities. First up, families rivaled the Great British Bake Off as they baked some delicious puff pastry jam hearts.
Some getting messier than others!
They then used the heart shaped cutters to create the shape of their delicious treats, added a blob (or two!) of jam and they were ready to be baked – before the best part – the tasting!
Not only was there a smell of baking in the air, but of lavender, as families were tasked with filling little fabric hearts with lavender and wadding to create little scented bags – perfect for making drawers, and those socks within, smell delightful!
There were works of ‘heart’ created as children created and designed their very own cooking apron with bright and colourful fabric paints.
Families added their personal touch bringing some ceramic hearts to life using special paints and plenty of glitter of course. Each heart had a thread attached to hang up in pride of place at home.
The creative keepsakes continued, as supported children and their siblings could decorate picture frames with lots of bright and tactile accessories ready to display the perfect photo of their loved ones.
Head of Care at Christopher’s Anne Bridgman said, “We always thoroughly enjoy holding our activity days and were thrilled to welcome so many families to the first one of this year. It’s such a pleasure to see children and their families getting a chance to spend time together and create special memories. The children we support have a wide range of complex conditions, so we ensure that every activity is fun and sensory so that everyone can take part and get enjoyment, whilst creating keepsakes for families to take home with them and treasure. A huge thank you to Fidelity and all the team involved in making it such a lovely successful day!”
The day was only made possible thanks to the fantastic Fidelity, one of Shooting Star Children’s Hospices Corporate Partners who ensured all the hearty activities were paid for – guaranteeing lots of fun and memory making for the families they support. A heartfelt thanks to Fidelity and all the staff and volunteers involved in making it such wonderful day.
