Did you know that we care for patients in their own homes and care homes? Our Hospice at Home team includes doctors, nurses, clinical nurse specialists, health care assistants, therapists, counsellors, chaplains, patient and family advisors and our Pastoral Care team. Last year, we supported over 2,000 patients at home, enabling them to remain there during their illness and in their last days. Many patients prefer to be at home, where they feel relaxed and comfortable, rather than travelling to the Hospice or Beacon Centre, while for others, like Maggie, travelling can be difficult. She is visited at home by Catherine, one of our occupational therapists.
“With MND, you get intense fatigue,” said Maggie. “It’s not just tiredness; it’s absolutely overwhelming sometimes, so going out anywhere takes an awful lot of energy. The fact that Catherine comes to me makes a big difference.”
