Phyllis Tuckwell Community teams support patients in their own homes and care homes during their last few days, weeks or months of life.
During the pandemic, there was a 40% increase in deaths at home nationally. Although home visits were difficult due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, it was important to maintain face-to-face contact as it was realised that patients often had heightened concerns related to isolation.
The team rapidly adapted working practices, including maintaining very high standards of infection prevention and control, communicating sensitively despite masks and eye protection.
To continue to offer this service at a high level, Phyllis Tuckwell have expanded the support from Hospice Care at Home by 26% in the past year!
