Comedian and presenter Joel enjoyed a sunny summer morning spending time with children, young people and their families at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices on Saturday 3 June.  Joel dropped in to a monthly drop in session for families, originally arriving disguised in a panda mask before revealing his identity to cries of ‘take it off!’ from children and staff.

Joel then spent time chatting to families and joined in with a special mask making arts and craft session, as well as getting a glitter tattoo and trying his hand at playing The Masked Singer board game.

Joel said of his visit, “The impact of Shooting Star Children’s Hospices is unbelievably important for people who feel like there are no other options. When you’re presented with something as horrific as what they’re having to deal with, just feeling like you have some form of hope in that world of darkness must be unbelievably helpful.”

Karen Sugarman MBE, Executive Vice-President at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices said, “Joel has been a supporter of us for many years, so it was wonderful to welcome him for the first time to Shooting Star House. The children had so much fun spending time with him and taking part in some Masked Singer activities.”

Over the years, Joel has taken part in a special comedy night in aid of the charity and was compere for Vice-President Tony Hadley’s virtual concert fundraiser in 2020; and most recently was Master of Ceremonies for a comedy fundraising event held by one the charity’s corporate supporters, Cloudshift, in 2021.
