“We would like to congratulate all of our wonderful gardening volunteers, who truly deserve this award,”

On Thursday 10th October, Phyllis Tuckwell’s volunteer gardeners were awarded ‘The Madge Green Community Gardening Award’ at the ‘Farnham in Bloom’ awards, in recognition of the beautifully tended garden they look after at the Hospice in Farnham.

‘Farnham in Bloom’ is part of ‘South & South East in Bloom’, which in turn is part of ‘Britain in Bloom’. Its aim is to encourage residents of Britain’s villages, towns, cities and urban communities to get involved in caring for the area they live in – protecting the environment, and conserving species and landscapes. From large organisations to small community groups, there are so many people who come together to look after the local environment, and ‘Britain in Bloom’ seeks to encourage and reward this dedication.

‘Farnham in Bloom’ events take place throughout the year, and include litter-picking days, gardening workshops for kids and competitions to find the best ‘secret gardens’ in Farnham – including categories for the best courtyard, small garden, large garden, vegetable garden, school garden and shop front. A Community Awards Ceremony is held each year for ‘Farnham in Bloom’ volunteers and participating schools, to recognise their efforts and celebrate the winners of each of these categories.

The gardening volunteers at Phyllis Tuckwell put a huge amount of time and effort into tending the Hospice garden, which is an important area of the Hospice grounds and is enjoyed by many of its patients and their families, as well as the staff who work there.

“We are thrilled to have won the ‘The Madge Green Community Gardening Award’, in recognition of the beautiful garden that we have at the Hospice,” said Jill, one of Phyllis Tuckwell’s volunteer gardeners. “It is a joy to be able to tend to such a wonderful outside space. Knowing that all the care and thought we put into making it a vibrant yet relaxing place for our patients and their families to enjoy is very rewarding, and having that effort celebrated by ‘Farnham in Bloom’ is very special indeed.”

“We would like to congratulate all of our wonderful gardening volunteers, who truly deserve this award,” said Julia Morpeth, Voluntary Services Manager at Phyllis Tuckwell. “We would also like to thank them, and all of our volunteers, for the time and energy they give to Phyllis Tuckwell. Their support is very much appreciated by all of our staff and patients.”
