Pull on your coat and grab a lead – it’s time for Wellies & Walkies
04 February 2019
Phyllis Tuckwell’s new sponsored event is one for the pooches, taking dogs and their owners on a sponsored stroll through the beautiful Farnham Park, whilst raising money to fund the vital supportive and end of life care which Phyllis Tuckwell provides for local patients and families who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer.
The walk will take place on Sunday 10th March, with dogs and their walkers meeting at the cricket pavilion in the park, ready to start their walk anytime between 10am and 11am. Two routes are on offer, both of which begin and end at the pavilion. The first is 2.5 miles and takes walkers along a scenic and more rural route, while the second, only slightly longer at 2.8 miles, is wheelchair and pushchair friendly, so may be preferable to some walkers. You don’t have to decide which route you want to take until the day, so don’t worry about making your choice just yet.
Phyllis Tuckwell celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and has introduced a range of new events, such as Wellies & Walkies, to mark this impressive milestone. All participating dogs and their owners will be asked to get as many sponsors as they can for their walk, to raise money to support the care which Phyllis Tuckwell provides for over 250 patients, relatives and carers every day. As the NHS/Government only covers 20% of its costs, it has to raise over £20,000 a day to be able to offer all of its services, which are given free of charge to its patients and their families.
“It’s great to have an event centred around our wonderful four-legged friends, who are such an important part of the family for many and who bring so much joy to their owners,” said Fiona Chapman, Events Fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell. “We would love it if your dog could raise £40 in sponsorship to celebrate our 40th anniversary. Whatever amount you are able to raise, we look forward to seeing you on the day!”
You and your pooch can sign up now at www.pth.org.uk/wellies-walkies. Tickets are £10 per dog, with humans walking for free, and at the end of the walk all participating dogs will receive a doggie bag, while their owners can purchase refreshments in the cricket pavilion hall, peruse the doggie gift stalls and buy tickets for the doggie raffle! Local vets Cathcart & Winn are kindly sponsoring this event and will be providing veterinary services on the day.
