Shooting Star House has reopened
13 September 2021
Shooting Star Children’s Hospices Hampton hospice, Shooting Star House, has reopened as an Outreach, Therapy and Family Support Centre.
The hospice, which was temporarily closed due to the pandemic, will be providing a comprehensive range of therapies and specialist clinics for the whole family.
The Shooting Star Children’s Hospices team have been working hard to ready the hospice to welcome back families, receiving the first families on 5th August, which coincided with the hospice’s 16th birthday.
The therapies available range from drama and music therapy, family support sessions, siblings’ groups, and Saturday ‘drop-in’ sessions.
Living with a baby, child or young person with a life-limiting condition can be extremely demanding, both mentally and physically. The services provided at Shooting Star House are there to help supported children, parents, siblings, and the wider family unit to cope, manage and process.
These services will also be given at Christopher’s, the Guildford hospice, where Shooting Star Children’s Hospices be continuing to provide planned and emergency respite including symptom stays and end-of-life care.
Sarah Hodkinson, Heard of Family Support Services said, “We pride ourselves on being able to provide a completely bespoke level of care and support, not only to the child or young person with the life-limiting condition, but the wider family unit. We’ve continued to provide our therapies service virtually and over the phone during the past 18 months, something which will still continue with families, but are thrilled we’re now also able to offer these services in person at both hospices.”
