A crisp and cold November evening acted as the perfect backdrop as some very brave ‘soles’ gathered at Chiswick Park to take on a walk with a difference – the Shooting Star Children’s Hospices Fire Walk.

38 fearless folk had the burning desire to walk over hot embers (up to 1200F) for their local children’s hospice charity, raising thousands for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families who are facing the unimaginable.

The walkers, which included members of families who are supported by the charity, long-term supporters, volunteers and corporate partners gathered for a full briefing on the mind over matter challenge from Cliff Mann from Time 4 Change. During the briefing he explained the history of fire walking, how to mentally prepare and most importantly how to do it correctly!

Cliff and his team then made the final preparations to the fire, including measuring the temperature, before they themselves walked across to show exactly how it’s done. It was then time for the walkers to put their best foot forward and make it their moment to remember.

Ana and Charis, took on the challenge as a part of a team from corporate supporters Queensway; Ana said, “It was amazing, so glad I did it!”, and Charis agreed, “I am very happy to have participated and very proud of the Queensway team for raising the heat and funds for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.”

Once completing the challenge the wonderful walkers were presented with a bespoke Fire Walk medal, before having a chance to celebrate their achievements with their friends and family, enjoying the spectacular Chiswick Park Firework Extravaganza.

The event has raised £7,000 to date and counting, which will help to support and care for families practically and emotionally across Surrey and London.

Alexa Dizon, Head of Challenge Events, said, “The Fire Walk was such an amazing night and we are in awe of all the brave Fire Walkers who stepped up to the challenge with courage and determination and made it their moment to remember. A huge thank you must go to everyone involved in making it happen and especially to our walkers whose fundraising efforts have been on fire, all of which will go toward making every moment count for the families we support.”
